Papua New Guinea, in the southwest Pacific region, encompasses the eastern half of New Guinea and its islands. The country has immense cultural and biological diversity and is famous for its beaches and coral reefs. Inland, it boasts active volcanoes, the granite Mount Wilhelm, dense rainforests, and hiking trails such as the Kokoda Track. There are also traditional tribal villages, many with their own distinct dialects.
